From creating the sound of a flute and violin to a screaming electric guitar or alien spaceships, laser beams and other worldly soundscapes, electronic music and sounds created by audio synthesizers have been a staple in music and film soundtracks since their inception. Recent years have seen a huge resurgence of interest in these unique and highly creative audio tools. That sound of a soda can being opened in the commercial you just watched was created by an audio synthesizer! Nearly all the soundtrack and sound effects to your favorite video game or movie were composed and created by these fascinating instruments. You hear them every day and probably aren't aware of it.

This camp will utilize open source (free) software synthesizers so you will be able to keep exploring and growing long after the class is over. A few hardware guest stars will make their appearance through the week for a real hands on experience! All supplies needed for this class will be provided, including MIDI keyboards and headphones, though students are welcome to bring their own equipment if they prefer. This camp is for rising 6th-8th graders.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS: A limited number of scholarships are available for Ivy Tech Youth Programs participants. Students must be eligible for free or reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program to receive a scholarship. If you are interested, please click here for more information.
