Participants will read, listen to, and discuss poems from the anthology Poetry Speaks Who I Am: 100 Poems of Discovery, Inspiration, Independence, and Everything Else for Teens. You will generate your own poems, stories, and/or memoirs with provided prompts. Topics covered include identity, family, growing up, friendship, school, food, nature, hobbies, and more. No previous creative writing experience is required. Come prepared to learn and use your imagination! This workshop is for rising 6th-8th graders.

SUPPLIES: The anthology will be provided, as well as notebooks and pencils. Participants should feel free to use their own writing/composition materials.

NOTE: A reading will take place on the final day of this workshop for students to share their work, which will be open to friends and family. This is optional to students (participation in the reading is not required), and more details will be provided during the first week of the workshop.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS: A limited number of scholarships are available for Ivy Tech Youth Programs participants. Students must be eligible for free or reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program to receive a scholarship. If you are interested, please click here for more information.
