Explore the exciting possibilities of clay beyond the traditional vessel with Sculptural Ceramics! In this class, we’ll focus on throw-and-alter techniques and sculptural building—perfect for students who enjoy working on the wheel and want to push the form in new ways. We’ll experiment with combining at least two hand-building methods in each project, whether it's wheel-throwing merged with slab construction, coils blended with carved textures, or thrown forms deconstructed and reassembled into expressive sculptures.
Students will be encouraged to develop their own artistic voice through exploration, play, and experimentation with surface and form. Demonstrations and critiques will support both functional and non-functional outcomes, and prior wheel or handbuilding experience is helpful but not required.
NOTE: This class is not eligible for fee remission for Ivy Tech employees due to limited capacity. Please see our CLL fee remission guidelines for more information.
OPEN STUDIO HOURS: This class will have open studio hours available to all registered students to work on class projects outside of class time as needed, as well as to pick up any pieces that still need to be fired following the end of class. A finalized schedule will be provided in initial communications prior to the start of class.
