Constellation's Acting for Adults: The Ensemble will focus on the collaborative nature of theatre and stage performance. In addition to ensemble-building acting exercises to help develop and sharpen your actor "toolkit," actors will use scripted scenes from ensemble-driven plays* as an "acting laboratory" to build upon the following skills: stage etiquette, identifying given circumstances, character analysis, script/scene analysis, staging/blocking, improvisation, playing an action, and stage presence. Students will leave the class more competent, confident, and collaborative performers. The class will culminate with a final showcase presentation of selected scenes.
*Depending on the class makeup, the following plays will be considered for scene study:
- The Minutes by Tracy Letts
- 12 Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose, Sherman L. Sergel
- Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play by Anne Washburn
- Stage Door by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman
- Our Town by Thornton Wilder
- Peter and the Starcatcher by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, adapted for the stage by Rick Elice
- The Coast of Utopia (trilogy) by Tom Stoppard
- The Heidi Chronicles by Wendy Wasserstein
