This year marks the return of our College for Teens Baking Camps this summer where rising 9th-12th grade students will get the chance to learn and develop decorating techniques in the professional kitchens of Ivy Tech's Hospitality Program! In Cake Decorating, we’ll be using dummy cakes (Styrofoam) to focus on decorating skills to create flowers and other decorations with fondant, wafer paper, gum paste and more. Students will take the completed non-edible cakes home on Friday. This camp is for rising 9th-12th graders.
NOTE: This camp is not eligible for Ivy Tech Employee Fee Remission due to limited capacity.
SUPPLIES: All supplies are included. Students will receive copies of the recipes, as well as any remaining food to take home. We will communicate ahead of time any container requirements for transporting bakes home.
PREREQUISITE: This camp is hands-on and can be physically demanding. Participants must be able to stand for up to 3 hours and be able to lift mixing bowls, hold a rolling pin, and stir batters with a spatula on their own. Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any concerns regarding camp accommodations in this regard.
DIETARY RESTRICTIONS: When completing the youth participation form for this class, please list any dietary restrictions, food allergies, or relevant medical information of which we should be aware. Recipes for all Ivy Tech baking camps can be made gluten or dairy free and can accommodate nut and fruit allergies. Recipes for this camp are not vegan accessible or egg-free.
YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS: A limited number of scholarships are available for Ivy Tech Youth Programs participants. Students must be eligible for free or reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program to receive a scholarship. If you are interested, please click here for more information.
