Music Synthesizers & Audio Synthesis (Grades 6-8)

From creating the sound of a flute and violin to a screaming electric guitar or alien spaceships, laser beams and other worldly soundscapes, electronic music and sounds created by audio synthesizers have been a staple in music and film soundtracks since their inception. The past couple of years has seen a huge resurgence of interest in these unique and highly creative audio tools. That sound of a soda can being opened in the commercial you just watched was created by an audio synthesizer! Nearly all the soundtrack and sound effects to your favorite video game or movie were composed and created by these fascinating instruments. You hear them every day and probably aren't aware of it. The class will utilize open source (free) software synthesizers so you will be able to keep exploring and growing long after the class is over. A few hardware guest stars will make their appearance through the week for a real hands on experience! All supplies provided. This camp is for rising 6th-8th graders.
