In this hands-on camp for rising 8th-12th graders, participants will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of audio engineering and music production by recording a live band at local community radio station, WFHB. Participants will set up microphones, learn signal flow, and work together to capture a multi-track recording of the band’s performance. We will work together to edit, mix, and prepare a finished recording while learning how professional studio sessions work, and by the end of the 4-day camp, participants will produce a mixed recording for broadcast on WFHB’s Youth Radio.
The camp is especially valuable for teens interested in music production, recording studios, podcasting, technology or live sound. Participants have the option to continue using skills learned in the camp as volunteers for Youth Radio.
By the end of the camp students will:
- Understand the basics of audio engineering and recording
- Learn about different types of microphones and recording equipment
- Understand signal flow and basic studio setup
- Record a band using multi-track recording techniques
- Edit audio and organize tracks
- Learn the basics of mixing and balancing sound
- Produce a finished recording of a live performance
No previous experience is required.
NOTE: WFHB programs are not eligible for Ivy Tech Employee Fee Remission.
