In this hands-on camp for rising 8th-12th graders, participants will have the opportunity to learn how music journalism works from interview to publication at local community radio station, WFHB. We’ll work together to interview a local band, edit a Q&A segment for radio broadcast, take photographs, and write a feature-style blog post for the WFHB website. By the end of the 4-day camp, participants will produce a multimedia story to be shared through broadcast on WFHB’s Youth Radio and online.
This camp is especially valuable for teens interested in music, podcasting, storytelling, photography and media. Participants have the option to continue using skills learned in the camp as volunteers for WFHB's Youth Radio.
By the end of the camp students will:
- Learn the basics of music journalism and arts reporting
- Develop interviewing skills and practice asking effective questions
- Record and edit audio for radio broadcast
- Write a feature-style article
- Learn basic portrait photography
- Practice collaborative storytelling and media production
- Understand how multimedia stories are produced for radio and online publication
No previous experience is required.
NOTE: WFHB programs are not eligible for Ivy Tech Employee Fee Remission.
