The act of painting can be powerfully involving and rewarding. As making images in paint becomes more familiar you can start to achieve more in your painting, and potentially experiment more with your process. In this class we will build on concepts and practices introduced in the Beginning Painting class and experiment with new ways to continue to explore the world in representational painting.
We will introduce more advanced painting practices, explore alternate selections of colors to work with, and consider relationships between drawing and painting. Work will be done from direct observation of still life setups or study of an image from art history. As in the Beginning Painting class there will still be an emphasis on maintaining and developing fundamentally sound painting practices, with a consideration of patient, step-by-step process and achieving accurate expression of elements visible in the external world.
In this class working in oil, acrylic, or slow-drying acrylic are all options. We will compare and discuss these media on the first day of class.
Prerequisite: Students will have taken Beginning Painting with Ben Pines through the Center for Lifelong Learning. If you have equivalent experience and would like an exception, please contact lifelonglearning@ivytech.edu.
No supplies are required for the first day of class. Painting supply lists for oil and acrylic painting will be provided and discussed for subsequent classes during our first class meeting.
