Over time, chronic stress can erode our physical and mental health, cognitive functioning, and vital relationships. In this course, participants explore how to access the body's innate capacity for balance to find calm and healing amidst life's pressures. With the guidance of a certified facilitator, participants learn about and practice powerful techniques for stress management and autonomic nervous system regulation. Skills learned include soft-belly breathing, guided visualization, self-directed relaxation, self-expression through drawing, prompted journaling, moving meditation, and more. 

After completing this course, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe the ways in which stress impacts the body and mind. 
2. Explain the biological underpinnings of mind-body techniques for stress reduction, including the basic functions of the autonomic nervous system. 
3. Identify the characteristics of concentrative, expressive, and mindfulness meditation to and use each stimulate positive changes in the body and mind. 
4. Use self-directed relaxation and biofeedback to regulate the autonomic nervous system. 
5. Use guided imagery to generate relaxation and feelings of ease and safety within the body. 
6. Engage in self-exploration, expression and understanding through drawing and journaling.
7. Use mindful eating as a practical way to integrate mindfulness into daily life.


No prior experience is necessary, and no special equipment is needed.  Students may want to keep a notebook specifically for journaling about their experiences with the course material.
