Explore the mosaic universe and expand your skills in this course for continuing mosaic students with Sara Colvard! You’ll use tile and crockery to complete a project of your choice in the playful style known as picassiette. You may create a trivet, a house number, a wall-hung pictorial mosaic, or something entirely unique!
In this course, Sara will teach a brief overview of modern mosaics, how to design and draw a pattern for your mosaic, how to utilize nippers to shape tile and crockery pieces, and how to use mortar and grout to create and finish your mosaic. You’ll also learn some basic principles of color theory, and how to select materials and tools for setting up a home studio. By the end of the course you will have gained more confidence in your mosaic skills and artistic abilities, and you’ll take home a durable piece of art that expresses your individual style!
Materials and supplies will be provided, though depending on individual project interests, students may need or want to supplement or source their own materials.
PREREQUISITE: Participants must have completed a previous mosaics class or have the instructor's permission.
