Explore the exciting possibilities of clay beyond the traditional vessel with Sculptural Ceramics! In this learner-led ceramics class, your ideas drive the work. We’ll focus on sculptural hand building techniques that include coil building, pinch pots, and slabs to create expressive, dimensional forms.
Whether you’re interested in functional pieces, abstract shapes, or figurative work like faces and figures, students will be supported in developing a personal project that reflects your unique vision and encouraged to develop their own artistic voice through exploration, play, and experimentation with surface and form.
Wheel throwing can be explored as an optional tool, but the heart of this course is hand-building. Demonstrations, feedback, and guided experimentation will help bring your ideas to life and support both functional and non-functional outcomes.
PREREQUISITE: Prior wheel or hand building experience is helpful but not required.
NOTE: This class is not eligible for fee remission for Ivy Tech employees due to limited capacity. Please see our CLL fee remission guidelines for more information.
OPEN STUDIO HOURS: This class will have open studio hours available to all registered students to work on class projects outside of class time as needed, as well as to pick up any pieces that still need to be fired following the end of class. A finalized schedule will be provided in initial communications prior to the start of class.
