Theater Playground: Pigeons, Piggies, and Pals is an introduction to theater arts for Littles in Grades K-2 and will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling through the playful, expressive, and laugh-out-loud world of Mo Willems-inspired characters and stories. From determined pigeons and dramatic best friends to lost stuffed animals, misunderstood monsters, and very surprising dinosaurs, students will explore stories filled with big feelings, silly problems, strong opinions, and joyful imagination.
Through imaginative play, young actors will build foundational theater skills in improvisation, communication, voice, movement, listening, and character creation. Each week, students will explore a different kind of storybook-theater challenge: using their bodies and voices to show emotion, creating bold characters with clear wants, practicing partner scenes, building comic timing, and learning how simple choices can become exciting moments on stage. Guided theater activities will encourage confidence, collaboration, point of view, active listening, and creative self-expression in a positive and supportive learning environment.
Budding actors will share their favorite characters, scenes, and storybook-inspired moments in a mini-showcase on October 24.
