This class is designed for the ceramicist who loves to make but feels under inspired by the simple dip in a glaze bucket. The idea is taking a simple form and exploring surfacing techniques that push them beyond their original shape. Through sgraffito, underglaze painting, staining and more potters will create visual narratives expanding the canvas of the clay. This approach to surfacing can be applied to hand-built vessels as well as those thrown on the wheel. Beyond the Form is intended to be a practice in experimentalism and learning in community . Please be willing to share your joys and discoveries with others as we explore the surfacing of vessels together.
PREREQUISITE: Some prior wheel throwing or hand building experience is recommended.
NOTE: This class is not eligible for fee remission for Ivy Tech employees due to limited capacity. Please see our CLL fee remission guidelines for more information.
