Constellation’s Acting on Camera: At the Dinner Table is a unique seven-week, project-based class designed for adults seeking to hone their on-camera skills through the specific, dynamic lens of classic dinner table scenes in film. From tense negotiations to uproarious family conflicts, these scenes offer a masterclass in subtlety, timing, and presence, providing a focused environment to refine your screen acting technique.

Who is this class for?

This course is ideal for actors with some experience (whether stage or screen) and curious beginners who are ready to dive into the specifics of acting for the camera. The collaborative setting provides a safe space for actors looking to challenge themselves with complex material and develop a deeper understanding of the technical demands of film acting.

What you will learn:

The focus of this class is on translating authentic human behavior to the intimacy of the lens. Through the careful study and performance of iconic dinner table scenes, students will explore the technical and artistic skills essential for on-camera success:

Script Analysis: Learn to dissect film scripts for character motivations, subtext, and the specific rhythm and flow of dynamic ensemble scenes.
- Acting on Camera Techniques: Master the essential differences between stage and screen acting, focusing on the power of stillness, internal monologue, and minimal physical adjustment to convey deep emotion.
- Character Development: Explore effective approaches to building authentic, layered characters that resonate truthfully on screen.
- Building On-Camera Relationships: Develop the necessary trust and communication skills to work effectively with scene partners, fostering authentic connections that translate into believable and dynamic on-screen relationships.
- Continuity: Understand the crucial technical aspect of maintaining continuity (physical actions, emotional arc, props, and wardrobe) across multiple takes and camera angles.
- On-Camera Presence: Enhance your ability to connect with your scene partners and the camera, developing a compelling, natural screen presence.
- Performance Skills: Gain confidence in applying your technique to the specifics of a film set environment, receiving personalized, constructive feedback on your work to help you take artistic risks and make bold character choices.

The class culminates in an on-camera, multiple-angle performance of selected “dinner table” scenes.

Prerequisite: Some acting experience recommended.
